British Champs 2018

Yup, tomorrow it is all over; British Championships 2018, for us at least, will come to a close. Since our first entry in 2016, which we will all remember as the year of the fracture (and yes I can say that because I was one of those broken humans!) and our bottom place finish with -1242 points and two forfeits, it was a bit of a low point for us as a league.

But since then we've battled onwards and upwards - in 2017 we finished 4th -278 points overall and an admirable 2 wins out of 5, and no forfeits! Last year was a really great year for us, we had our most successful intake (yet) and our team grew not only in experience and numbers but we also gained a Bench Coach.

We have had some bumps in the 2018 road, but it's now the day before our last game, and one we've all been looking forward to - Spa Town are a great bunch to play against and we always have a great time - it's a bit of a full circle moment for some of us. We launched Durham Roller Derby around the same time that Spa Town hosted an open scrim, all those years ago.

Don't get me wrong, both teams are looking for a win, it's a second place promotion spot.... but it doesn't mean we can't have fun while we do battle - I for one can't wait to get on track and do what we all do best and play Roller Derby - not only with the team that I love, but against a team who we have such a great history with.

I don't know another team out there who I'd rather play against in the final.

Here's to tomorrow, the best way to close out a season!
